I know that about docs and nutrition. I’m planning on using a registered dietitian. So far I’ve gotten a few sites with nutritionists in them who specialize for people with one kidney. Having one kidney means you have to be extra nice to it because there’s no back up anymore.  Lol.  Red meat is off limits, there are lots of plant based, etc. 

I would stick to plant based diet. You will feel incredible and gain years on your life (I am still trying to convince my parents to go vegetarian) but my and my 2 sisters are all vegetarians and are all in good health. Eat the Greeeeeeeeeens 

I don’t trust doctors when it comes to nutrition because if they were required to study it, it would take 20 years to get a degree instead of 15. Jk. Lol. But seriously doctors aren’t required to study nutrition and when I found this out I was shocked and began to educate myself. Read books that’s where you can get the real info. I wouldn’t eat meat anytime in my lifetime (been vegetarian since I was like 10) it’s the leading cause of heart disease but no doc will tell u that. some might, some do educate themselves on the nutritional aspects of health but a lot dont 

@Bobbythebus the amount of information out there is overwhelming, for sure. That’s why I’d recommend asking your doctor for information/referral to a certified nutritionist that specializes in renal diet life changes. That way you are being monitored by a licensed healthcare professional that’s in touch with your renal team/doctor, if any complications were to arise(god forbid) and can be caught early.

That’s the basics, but I’m getting conflicting information for example bananas are off limits and then other site says they’re good. Kale is recommended. I know @cloonyforbes  likes kale, but spinach should be consumed sparingly. No citrus including oranges and juice. No dark soda, which I gave up long ago especially Diet Coke with aspartame in it. I do like a ginger ale occasionally 

@Bobbythebus hmm... not versed in that field but my coworker that has one kidney(removed when she was an infant) had worked with a nutritionist thru her doctor’s offices. Try reaching out to your doctor to see if they can steer you to an expert within the hospital. I know that my coworker has mentioned watching her sodium intake, proteins and potassium. And spacing out her liquids throughout the day so she’s not overworking her remaining kidney.
